Removed in 1.26

No Kubernetes release since 1.26 serves apiVersion: autoscaling/v2beta2. Objects that were stored through it are still in etcd and readable through the replacement version; only manifests and clients that name this version break.

Migrating off autoscaling/v2beta2

HorizontalPodAutoscaler removed in 1.26

Move to autoscaling/v2, served since 1.23. Existing objects stay readable through the new version.

What changes:

targetAverageUtilization is replaced with target.averageUtilization and target.type: Utilization. See Autoscaling on multiple metrics and custom metrics.

To convert files mechanically: kubectl convert -f old.yaml --output-version autoscaling/v2 (the kubectl-convert plugin, installed separately). Review defaults it fills in.
