apps/v1beta1

Removed in 1.16

No Kubernetes release since 1.16 serves apiVersion: apps/v1beta1. Objects that were stored through it are still in etcd and readable through the replacement version; only manifests and clients that name this version break.

Migrating off apps/v1beta1

Deployment removed in 1.16

Move to apps/v1, served since 1.9. Existing objects stay readable through the new version.

What changes:

spec.rollbackTo is removed
spec.selector is now required and immutable after creation; use the existing template labels as the selector for seamless upgrades
spec.progressDeadlineSeconds now defaults to 600 seconds (the default in extensions/v1beta1 was no deadline)
spec.revisionHistoryLimit now defaults to 10 (the default in apps/v1beta1 was 2, the default in extensions/v1beta1 was to retain all)
maxSurge and maxUnavailable now default to 25% (the default in extensions/v1beta1 was 1)

spec.updateStrategy.type now defaults to RollingUpdate (the default in apps/v1beta1 was OnDelete)

To convert files mechanically: kubectl convert -f old.yaml --output-version apps/v1 (the kubectl-convert plugin, installed separately). Review defaults it fills in.
